Hardwood Flooring Options

Generations of homeowners have prized it, and the appeal of natural hardwood flooring is bound to continue. Adding instant panache and value to your space, natural hardwood works well with all décor styles and today, homeowners have more options than ever before. These days there are two basic types of hardwood to choose from: engineered and solid.

Solid Hardwood Flooring

A timeless option appealing to traditionalists, solid hardwood is comprised of one single piece of wood. Since it can be re-sanded and re-finished over and over again, solid hardwood is an ideal option for those who foresee many décor changes in their future. However, since solid hardwood will shrink or expand when wet, it’s not a viable solution for kitchens, bathrooms, and finished basements.

Engineered Hardwood

More structurally sound than its solid cousin, engineered hardwood is produced using multiple layers of natural wood, which are then bound together to form a single plank. Engineered hardwood looks very much like sold wood, but it tends to be more reasonably priced. It’s also moisture-resistant, making it a wonderful compromise for spaces where sold hardwood doesn’t work.
